It's Labor Day weekend and oddly enough, Brett has four days off!! So we decided to do what any red blooded American family would do - go camping!
We were lucky because our good friends, the Erwins, were also going camping this weekend so we decided to all go together to share in the fun.
Now I try not to lie to you people. When I say a particular event was filled to the brim with fun and laughter, it was. And on this particular trip, it was not. It was not the location, per se, it was beautiful. It certainly wasn't the company. The only reason my sanity remained hanging on it's tiny little string was because of Saint Jill and all of her ingenious ways to entertain small people.
But it was just not the best camping trip we have ever been on.
You see, it was cold. Really cold, for summer camping. We were at 11,000 ft by Bolam Pass and it got down to 40 degrees last night. And our kids turned into popsicles. And Callie cried. A lot. All. Night. Long. And there was very little sleep. And I don't know if you noticed or not, but we're not rockstars anymore.
and so we packed up a day early and came home
thank goodness for the 6 inches of water in that pond, the older kids spent a lot of time "fishing"
and the younger kids were so cute... and crazy... and into everything
poor jill, leading the 100th game of simon says & poor bennett, just never really caught on to the whole "simon says" part
one of the highlights was the warm fire we had last night & the smores
killing some time this morning on a hike while the menfolk got in a rather long bike ride
We have one more float trip coming up in a few weeks and then I think we're going to hang up our sleeping bags for the season. Freezing your balls off is for the birds!
Happy Labor Day Everyone! xx
